The Moustis cells (cell from the Greek word keli referring to old traditional small spaces), named after the nickname of their previous owner (Moustis, derived from ‘must,’ the grape juice before fermentation), involve the reconstruction of two adjoining cells in a “L” shape, transforming them into a residence that can accommodate up to four people. The first cell houses the bedroom of the residence, while the second includes the kitchen, living room (which can accommodate two people), and the bathroom. The three spaces are not connected internally, and access between them is through the courtyard, as was customary in traditional cell designs.

The building’s exterior was coated with earthy-toned plaster (color of soil), aiming for complete integration into the natural landscape, much like traditional cells, which were either made of stone or plastered in brownish hues. Additionally, small openings and low window frames were preserved, maintaining the traditional aesthetic of the cells.

Inside, natural materials were used, such as beige plaster on the walls, stone flooring, chestnut wood, and reed on the ceiling, while the furniture was custom-made from chestnut wood, blending tradition with modern design. A key element of the interior is a multifunctional piece of furniture in the living room, which cleverly organizes the limited space. This piece includes a foldable dining table, a wardrobe, shelves for books and decorative items, and a television that is hidden behind a sliding panel, saving space and creating a clean, minimalist look.

In the exterior area, a built-in corner sofa and a large built-in dining table were created, providing an ideal relaxation spot. The pergola was constructed from natural chestnut wood and bamboo, offering shade and a natural atmosphere that complement the surrounding island environment.
